Sound power is sound energy emission rate and characteristics of a sound source. It does not depend on the distance from the source. Sound power has a unit of Watt but is usually referred to dB or dB(A).
Sound power is determined by measuring sound pressure levels or sound intensities. Sound intensity measurements are more complicated than sound pressure measurements. Sound power measurements have complicated procedures defined by the ISO or Australian Standards. Sound power measurements also require experienced acoustic engineers to correctly follow the procedures, especially for intensity measurements.
