The definition of ‘excessive noise’ is left to the police.
Excessive noise should be avoided no matter it is music blaring or lawnmowers buzzing. Every neighbourhood is subject to certain local council rules and regulations regarding noise.
If it’s played at the right times, loud music can be a joy. Other times, it can be a headache, keeping people awake and causing unnecessary tension. In general, music shouldn’t be audible within habitable rooms of a neighbour’s house between 7pm and 7am Monday to Saturday, or 7pm and 9am on a Sunday
Hand-held power tools can only be used for up to two hours each day in Western Australia. Furthermore, usage is restricted to between 7am and 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am and 7pm on Sundays and public holidays.
The Dog Act empowers local governments to take action if valid complaints are received about an excessively noisy dog. Owners may be served with a six-month noise abatement notice or, if the problem persists, fined up to $5000.
